The end of the world a few hundred meters in front

The end of the world a few hundred meters in front of Reykjavik Bay, the small island of Viđey. The ancient village is in ruins but the old school has been preserved. The harmonium resounds with beautiful overtones in the classroom where the reverberation seems to still carry the voices of the children who studied there. I will soon return to record some organ drone tests, assisted I hope by all these benevolent and joyful presences.

Recorded in September 2022 during a streaming Live Session at @spaceodyssey_musicspace - label, record shop and house of wonders led by Pan Thorarensen (from Stereo Hypnosis), this ultra-limited edition cassette unfolds a 30-minute drone of chaotic swirling harmonics slowly merging into a melancholy, dark yet soft texture.
“Agame" is the name I gave to the process when several nesting layers of guitar harmonics implode and condense in search of a single tone as the only possible horizon.

Hallgrímskirkja Kleis pipe organ (Reykjavik).
In 1988 the Icelandic church council decided that the Frobenius pipe organ wasn't big enough and commissioned another from the German organ builder Johannes Klais of Bonn. It has electronic action;
the pipes are remote from the 4 manuals and pedal console. There are 102 ranks, 72 stops and 5275 pipes. It is 15 metres tall and weighs 25 metric tons. Its construction was finished in December 1992.

Exactly 7 years ago, just before going to record with the wonderful magician Rhys Chatham in his Parisian studio, I recorded at my place some soaring ultra-reverberant guitar chords still steeped in yet another replay the night before of Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me. This resulted in a demo that was so haunted by the absence of Julee Cruise's voice that I couldn't resist sending it to her.
In a response I didn't even expect, with some very sweet and kind words, she sent me this picture of herself crying.
Probably a way to say that these few chords had moved her, so with shivers, I received this as a magnificent gift from her.
This song was hers, no one else could have sung it. And now it's our secret lost through the night, forever.

1st time I play a version of Horus Rising live at

1st time I play a version of Horus Rising live at Les Instants Chavirés, a track released in 2020 on the Silent Records label, in a drone compilation with among others Makoto Kawabata and Rhys Chatham. Arthur Aether lent me a hand on stage, the piece requiring a prepared guitar played in open tuning with metal and a keyboard/sampler tuned to a range of 14 notes per octave (i named it Phitine)... All powerfully sounded here by Ben, thanks to him for the recording!
It was a wonderful moment for me, especially since today is only unbearable physical pain due to surgeries to remove kidney stones... making me miss the super Sonic Protest festival 🙁 also, sorry to be not very present but there is at least this recording of the QUASI of March 8. Thanks to Arthur, Jf Pichard, Ben and Sally <3

The Rhys Chatham’s Electric Guitar Orchestra uses six guitars (including Chatham), bass and drums. The piece in its full form consists of two 20-minute sections; the second part is accompanied by a minimalist film made in the late 1970s by the visual artist Robert Longo (former member of the Guitar Trio group) entitled Pictures for Musique (1979).

Over the years, many guitarists have performed in Rhys Guitar Orchestras, including members of Sonic Youth, Tortoise, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Hüsker Dü, Lichens but also Glenn Branca, Tony Conrad, Jean-François Pauvros, Elliott Sharp or even… Keanu Reeves.

Two years after my last concert in Paris, I feel totally psyched to join this perfect cosmic line-up at Extreme Chill Festival to play on October 9th at Hurra. It is arguably the most creative and boiling highlight for experimental & ambient music in Iceland (first festival here to take place in 2 years ...). If you come to see the ongoing volcanic eruption, you'll have there the soundtrack of your dreams to go with it.

Sonic drones and twisted guitars smother an anxiety dreamscape, spiralling upwards around each other into a space which is simultaneously expansive and suffocating. Nico says that he can only create in Reykjavík, and cites “Icelandic telluric forces, volcanoes, ghosts and deities” as the entities which permeate his work. Their influences are all clear and present in ‘Streams Of Oblivion’; it’s the kind of music I could invite to wash over me, if I was in the right mood. But that would have to be a pretty weird mood. bookstore in Paris ... it was exactly one week after the Bataclan massacre and Paris was paralyzed by fear and sadness. Despite everything, we decided to do this performance to perfect our overtones incantation a little more. We had to do it.
